MULTISENSOR PRECIPITATION ESTIMATES PRODUCED BY NOAA, NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RIVER FORECAST CENTERS |
| Abstract: |
Quality, high resolution precipitation estimates are produced hourly over the United States by NOAA’s National Weather Service River Forecast Centers. These estimates are created through combining precipitation gage data with RADAR data, and applying automated and manual quality control. The data is presented graphically and can be summed over any desired time period.
This presentation will provide an overview of multi-sensor precipitation data, showing how it is created and how accurate it is in the Chesapeake Bay region. The use of the data in the National Weather Service forecast process will be described through a case study example.
